Adds a PrintFriendly button to your browser. Click it on any page and you get a clean version to print, save as a PDF, or capture as an image. This is for reading other people's pages; if you want a button on your own site for your readers, that is the Print Button.

Safari is delivered as an app

Install it from the App Store, then switch it on in Safari's settings under Extensions. That is an Apple requirement rather than a choice of ours, and it is why the steps differ from the other browsers. The same app covers Mac, iPad and iPhone.

After Installing

Pin the icon to your toolbar. Browsers hide new extensions behind a puzzle-piece or jigsaw menu by default, and most “it did not install” reports turn out to be an extension that installed fine and is sitting in that menu.

Then open any article and click the icon. PrintFriendly opens over the page, and from there you can delete anything you do not want, resize the text and images, and print, save a PDF, or take a screenshot.

Right-click the page and choose Print Friendly and PDF for a second way to open it, without reaching for the toolbar.

Common Questions

I installed it but there is no icon#

It is in the extensions menu, the puzzle-piece icon near the address bar. Open that, find PrintFriendly, and pin it. In Safari the control is in Safari's own settings under Extensions, where it also has to be enabled after installing the app.

Edge says the extension is not compatible#

Update Edge and try again, which clears most of these. If it still refuses on a current version, send us the version number from Settings then About Microsoft Edge, and whether the browser is managed by your employer or school. Those two answers usually tell us which it is.

Firefox will not install it#

The Firefox add-on requires Firefox 140 or newer. Older releases, including some extended-support versions, will refuse it.

Does it work in Brave, Opera, Vivaldi or Arc?#

Yes. Install the Chrome version; all four run Chrome extensions.

Why is there a PrintFriendly card above my Google or Bing results?#

That shows up once you have allowed the extension to run on Google and Bing search results specifically, a separate, smaller permission from full access to every site you visit, and only when the search itself looks like a PDF task. Click it for the same upload-a-file PDF tools the toolbar offers, without opening a page first.

An update opened a welcome tab as though I had just installed it#

That is the update, not a reinstall. Your settings and any permissions you granted are still there. Nothing has been reset and you do not need to set it up again.

I removed it and now cannot get it back#

Install it again from the store link above. If the store says it is already installed but you see no icon, it is in the extensions menu waiting to be pinned. If your browser is managed by an employer or a school, an administrator policy may be blocking it, which you will need to ask them about.

Will it run on an older operating system?#

What matters is the browser version, not the operating system. If your browser is current enough to be receiving updates, the extension will run. Where an old operating system is the problem, it is because it cannot run a recent enough browser.

A page came out wrong. Should I tell you?#

Yes. If a page comes out wrong, we want to know.

Missing images and half-captured articles are often fixable at your end, and troubleshooting is quicker for those.
